About Breathwork

  • ‘Breathwork’ is a catch-all phrase to describe a wide range of breathing exercises and techniques which help you to control your breath. Breathwork, also known as, pranayama, has been practiced for thousands of years to help improve physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual health. There are many types of breathwork practice to suit different levels of experience and goals.

  • The world of neuroscience is intrigued with the wide ranging impacts of breathwork and has demonstrated it:

    • Reduces stress and anxiety, signalling to the brain you are safe. It can be used as an ‘in the moment’ coping mechanism or daily to reduce feelings of anxiety.

    • Improves self-confidence, self-esteem and mood by being present, feeling relaxed and happy.

    • Proper breathing brings in a good supply of oxygen and reduces cortisol and stress.

    • Improves sleep: Poor sleep can be a trigger for stress and if left unaddressed can exacerbate symptoms.

    • Improves mood and negative emotions.

    • Helps manage ongoing impacts of negative experiences through promoting feelings of relaxation and reducing the stress response.

    • Reduces inflammation and cortisol levels helping to promote feelings of calm.

    • Helps with self-regulating behaviours that can exacerbate anxiety and stress such as over-indulgence in alcohol and junk food.

    • Improves focus, limiting the impact of distractions from self-limiting thought patterns.

Session set-up

  • Before your first session, I’ll be in touch with with a Welcome Pack so you know what to expect during our time together. However, you don’t need to do any special preparations in advance. I recommend setting yourself up in a private space where you feel relaxed wearing comfortable clothes.

  • We will start the first session with a recap of your challenges and goals but then get straight into the breathwork practices so you can start experiencing the benefits from Day 1!

Safety and suitability

  • Generally yes. Breathwork has many proven health benefits and will enhance your wellbeing. There are a wide range of Breathwork techniques to choose from to help you find inner calm and unshakeable confidence. The right technique for you is the one that you feel most comfortable doing and brings the biggest benefits.

    If you have any pre-existing health conditions or are taking medication it is important to share these details with me so we can tailor the approach to your health needs.

  • Breathwork has contraindications because of its strong activation of the nervous and endocrine systems.

    The following health conditions ARE SAFE to practice Breathwork with and should be raised with me before our first session:

    • Pregnancy.

    • Asthma – mild or medium.

    • High blood pressure.

    • History of surgery or physical injury.

    • Thyroid condition.

    • Diabetes.

    • History of seizure.

    • PTSD.

    • Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or psychiatric condition.

    • Recreational drug use or prescription medication such as: painkillers, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety.

    • Recent surgery or injury.

    Contraindications that are NOT SAFE to practice Breathwork with include:

    • Cardiovascular disease (angina, previous heart attacks, or strokes).

    • Detached retina.

    • Glaucoma.

    • Aneurysm in brain or abdomen.

    • Kidney disease.

    • Severe Asthma.

    • Epilepsy.

    If you have an existing medical condition, please consult with your doctor before our sessions begin.

Mentorship approach

  • I use a mix of mentoring, teaching and self-reflection in the Executive Breathwork Mastery Programme applied to my own unique framework.

    I draw from a wide range of breath, body and mind-focus techniques founded in the Eastern traditions that are backed by the latest neuroscience.

    My unique framework includes three transformative phases, all of which are customised to address your challenges and goals:

    1. The inner work: getting to understand what’s happening in your brain, learning how to be self-aware, self-reflect and visualise where you want to get to.

    2. The Practices: experimenting with a range of science-backed practices with 1:1 support to create daily habits that maintain calm, confidence and composure.

    3. The outer work: pulling everything you have learnt about yourself and practices together and putting it into action in real life with support. Growing your mastery in your skills, self-awareness and self-confidence.

  • The Executive Breathwork Mastery Programme is a one-on-one mentorship. In 90 days you will:

    • Understand your triggers and reactions and how to best manage them in the moment and day-to-day.

    • Learn how to manage your emotions and deliver calmly and confidently under pressure.

    • Create a Breathwork toolkit, unique to you, to manage stress and deliver in any situation.

    • Show up with confidence and composure using the tools you have learnt.

    • Create sustainable and practical habits to keep stress at bay for life.

    • Understand the role your lifestyle and habits play in influencing your nervous system.

    • Be able to rely on a practical and accessible ritual for finding more joy and purpose in the face of stress.

    I don’t offer group workshops as part of the Executive Breath Mastery Programme however if you are interested in a group session for your Executive Team please get in touch.

Practical outcomes

  • My clients typically experience results in the first session. The impacts of Breathwork are almost immediate!

    To get the most out of the programme and to put situational stress firmly behind you, I recommend dedicating the following time for your personal growth:

    • 60 minutes fortnightly for our 1:1 sessions.

    • Up to 30 minutes daily for practicing.

    • Scheduling up 30 minutes weekly to review the support materials.

    • Allowing time daily / weekly for touching base on Slack / WhatsApp.

    • Clearing diary and mental space ahead of high stakes events to self-regulate and prepare.

  • Yes. It is very important to practice the Breathwork and other techniques I share with you between sessions. And after the programme has finished. The more you practice, the greater the benefits you will experience. I recommend practicing daily, in addition, to using Breathwork just before and during important moments or events.
